Heritage Note

St Benedict of Nursia (480–547 AD) is known as the father of Western monasticism and is revered throughout the Christian world. His teachings emphasised faith, discipline, humility, prayer, and work, principles that shaped Christian communities across Europe for centuries.

Croatia's Christian roots reach back to the early medieval period, when Benedictine monks played an important role in preserving literacy, culture, and faith along the Croatian coast and islands.
