Heritage note

Ban Josip Jelačić (1801–1859) was the Ban (Governor) of Croatia and remains one of the nation's most celebrated historical figures. He worked to strengthen Croatian autonomy within the Habsburg Monarchy, abolished serfdom in Croatia, and became a lasting symbol of national unity and independence. His statue in Zagreb's main square continues to stand as one of Croatia's most recognisable landmarks.
